424 East 161st Street Bronx, NY 10451
Located in the most vibrant and diverse neighborhood of South Bronx, Porto Salvo is right near the Bronx Court House, 3rd Avenue retail HUB and walking distance from Yankee Stadium. With its nautical-themed decor reminiscent of an old Italian port tavern, the restaurant provides an original setting for your next private event.
You can reserve a private section in the restaurant or book the entire establishment for birthday parties, bridal showers and corporate events. Please email email@example.com or call 929-376-7866 for further details.
If you wish us to cater to events at location of your choice, feel free to speak with our executive chef Luigi Ghidetti in designing your menu that fits your budget.
Porto Salvo is the newest interpretation of Old Italian style cookery lead by executive chef Luigi Ghidetti. The restaurant has the ambiance of an old Italian port tavern, featuring local draft beers and Ombra (specially selected house red and house white) at a great budget.
In addition, an extensive list of European wines will certainly bring the flavor of Italy and Spain to your taste buds. Before you decide between classic and special cocktails, you should also notice the ship engine telegraph alongside of the Captain’s wheel. Sharing small plates such as grandma style veal meatballs and house-made crab cakes is encouraged here just like back in Terracina, Italy. And there is NO TV or WIFI available to guests, so pretend it is 1991 and talk to the beautiful person across from or next to you. Whether you are a new transplant to the South Bronx or a Melrose “Mayor,” please prepare to enjoy the baby octopus ragu with homemade spaghetti and Sicilian style grilled salmon in Salmoriglio sauce. Afterwards you might look at the boxed pastas and jarred sauces in your kitchen cabinet differently. Strong espresso might not steal your love for the Cappuccino, but you must try the pannacotta. A little fresco and dolce yet not overdone can linger on your tongue and in your mind for quite a while.
Now, bring your family and friends: a perfect weekend brunch together will bridge you over till the next weeknight outing at Porto Salvo. And all of us here not only want to provide you with great food, great wine and a great time, but we strive to provide you with an experience and expansion from what life is to what life can be.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Luigi Ghidetti and Mark Lu
Luigi was born in Terracina, Italy and studied in various Italian culinary institutes since he was just 14. He focused intensely on Italian old country style cooking and opened a hostaria la Goletta in 1986. The restaurant received the Il Gambero Rosso award and he was asked to work with chefs from the famed Hotel Danieli in Venice. Looking for more inspiration, Luigi started his world tour in London in 1995 and was then invited to bring Tuscan cookery to New York in 2001. He was soon recognized by James Beard Foundation and featured in New York Times. Continuing his successful tour, in 2006 he took his skill to Bogotá, Colombia where his guests included former President and First Lady Mr. & Mrs. Gaviria. Realizing his heart was still in New York, Luigi decided to come back and settle in the City and opened his Italian winebar. U.S. Supreme Court Justice, a proud Bronxite, Sonia Sotomayor had celebrated her birthday at his establishment. Luigi currently owns Anchor Winebar and the Drafthouse in Hamilton Heights and is excited to bring authentic Italian cookery to South Bronx with Porto Salvo.
